Holiday seasons has always been a conundrum for me – on the one side great because I can rest (and get fatter – “oopse daisy”) – on the other side I had to get into a swimsuit (horrible and painful). My self-love was at an all-time low. During my December Holiday in 2023 something snapped between having a glass of wine and my next packet of chips while “per ongeluk” looking at myself in the mirror (urgh, not good). I grabbed my phone and sent Marethe Grobler a one liner, “Will you be able to help me lose weight?”
I took responsibility (whoop whoop) – put on my big girl panty and made the commitment, and most importantly, the necessary action. On 8 January 2024, my journey started. I was not hopeful in my new endeavour because my track record sucked. However, the difference here was having a friend, confidant, no judgement listener, and an awesome human supporting me each time we hit the gym. Believe me, I would have NEVER made it this far without her by my side.
My transformation not only happened on a physical level, but also mentally. I tried every trick in the book for an excuse to NOT go to the gym but here is the most important lesson of them all – EXERCISE. The one thing I ran from which was the most powerful game changer (wow and I thought of myself as clever). I always knew that somewhere, very deeply hidden, was a muscle on my upper arm that, with a little bit of exercise, will make its appearance. Well, it did!!! This was one of my requests to Marethe on the 8th of January, “please make sure I have beautiful arms”.
Thank you Marethe for everything you’ve done to support me in losing weight and transforming my life. Through the ups and downs your positivity and enthusiasm have inspired me to push beyond my limits and it was more than just losing weight; this journey has changed my outlook on life. I feel more energetic, confident, and motivated than ever before. I’ve learned to appreciate my body and the amazing things it can do, and I owe so much of this newfound perspective to you. My girl, you deserve one “hell-of-a” medal .
Not just my gym partner but now also my best friend. Thank you and thank you again.
To any girl out there, oh my goodness, please just take that first step. You will never regret it.
